This application assignment is a poster designed to help students change their mindset. On the left side of the poster are statements made by many students. These statements are negative statements that drag students down. One example of this is "I am not good at this." This is a common statement made by students when they do not perceive themselves as doing well. On the right side of the poster are statements that students should say instead of the ones on the left. For example, instead of saying "I am not good at this." Students should say "What am I missing?" This statement shows that the student is not giving up but rather finding a way to understand it. By changing their words, students can change the way they think at school as well as change the way they think about themselves. Hopefully students will look at this poster as a reminder to keep trying and think positively.
This poster provides students with multiple means of representation. Many teachers tell their students to think positively and to keep trying. This poster acts as a visual way for students to hear the same thing. This poster is a resource that allows students to quietly reflect on themselves and their attitude without prompting from the teacher. This poster also provides a means of engagement for students. The statements on the poster encourage a child to have intrinsic motivation. This poster is a non verbal way that the teacher can engage students in the lesson by appealing to their internal motivation. The poster acts as a reminder to students that they are smart and can complete anything they want. Hopefully students will look at the poster and realize that they can complete any classwork and can conquer anything that comes their way.
