Learner Variability is the knowledge or idea that there is no average learner. Every learner is different and variable. We can plan for learner variability by following the UDL guidelines. Differences in how students represent information, engage with materials, and act on materials/ show knowledge are all part of learner variability according to the National Center for Universal Design for Learning. The Center also says that teachers should use the following key features of UDL to plan for Learner Variability. Teachers should design curriculum to be universal from the beginning, be flexible, allow students to have lots of choices and take many paths, and lastly teachers should allow students to represent information in many different ways.
